About Our Farm

Rome Strawberry Patch is a small family farm located on the Watson Pond Road in Rome, Maine. Nestled in the heart of the Belgrade Lakes region, we are situated on the north face of scenic French Mountain, which is part of the beautiful western mountain foothills.

You will enjoy the crisp mountain air of the Belgrade Lakes while visiting our farm. Temperatures at the farm on a warm summer day are typically 5-10 degrees cooler than in the city. Strawberry flavor is at its best during these sunny days that are followed by cool nights, which is typical of our foothills’ micro-climate during the harvest season.

Photo by Peter LeisOur 75-acre farm is made up of fields and forests. The forest is sustainably managed as a certified Tree Farm. Each strawberry field is regularly rotated with cover crops to build organic matter in the soil. This and many other sustainable practices are used for the purpose of growing flavorful, plump and sweet strawberries. Each patch is unique in size and slope, bordered by old rock walls erected by the original farm owners in the 1800’s. The terraced pattern of the fields is as beautiful as it is practical, helping us to control erosion and maintain a steady supply of water for the strawberries throughout the growing season.

After reducing our strawberry acreage in 2010, we began offering strawberries only in pre-picked quart baskets.

The farm is nearly equal distance (about 15-20 miles) from Augusta, Farmington, Skowhegan and Waterville. The farm is just one-fourth mile off State Highway 27, one mile north of Rome Corner.
