Rome Strawberry Patch

Things to Do in the Belgrade Lakes Region

Rome is part of the beautiful Belgrade Lakes Region, which is renowned for its chain of seven unique lakes, including panoramic views of fields, hills, and woodlands. During the summer, the region comes alive with numerous summer guests seeking the simplicity and serenity of a true vacation lifestyle and the many activities associated with summer fun. For many, this fun includes visiting one of the places listed below and then coming to Rome Strawberry Patch to pick fresh strawberries.

French Mountain

French Mountain, Maine

Before you come to pick strawberries, you might enjoy a short, easy climb to the top of French Mountain. The view of Whittier Pond below the mountain, with Long Pond in the distance is spectacular. Turkey vultures regularly soar on the air currents above the Pond.

Directions: Traveling south along Watson Pond Road from Route 27, go past our farm driveway for about 2000 feet until you come to a paved parking area on your left. The trail's entry is easy to identify from the edge of the road. It takes about 10-15 minutes to hike to the top of the mountain.

Blueberry Hill

If you prefer a scenic drive, consider a visit to Blueberry Hill, where you can overlook the Belgrade Lakes and enjoy a picnic lunch.

Directions: Blueberry Hill is located 3.2 miles south from our farm driveway. A gravel road will take you right to the overlook of the mountain, where there are several parking spaces. You will appreciate the beautiful scenery of this expansive view of the lakes region.

Mount Phillip

For years, hikers have enjoyed the woodland and streams of this popular hiking trail. Mount Phillip was recently acquired by the Belgrade Regional Conservation Alliance to protect it from development. Its summit provides a spectacular panorama that includes not only Great Pond, but North and East ponds as well. To the west, you can see the peaks in the recently protected Kennebec Highlands; to the north, the numerous hills of Maine's western foothills stretch out before you and become the Bigelow Range.

Directions: From Rome Corner (Junction of Hwy 27 and 225) go east on Hwy 225 for 1.4 miles to a crest on a hill. There is a gravel pull-over area on the left side of the road, with a vehicle parking area immediately following.
